Privacy Policy
Effective date: January 1, 2025
1. What We Collect
We collect information you provide directly: your email address, name (if provided), and the answers you enter during onboarding (interests, work style, location, budget, and financing preferences). We also collect account credentials managed through Supabase Auth. We do not collect payment card data — all payments are processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to: generate personalized franchise reports using Claude AI; save and display your reports and checklist progress; manage your subscription status; send transactional emails (receipts, account notices); and improve the App's recommendations and performance. We do not use your data to train AI models. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
3. AI Processing
When you request a franchise report, your onboarding answers are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate personalized recommendations. This data is processed on Anthropic's servers under their privacy policy. We do not share your email or account identity with Anthropic — only the anonymous profile data (interests, location, budget) needed to generate the report.
4. Location Data
If you grant location permission, we use your device's GPS to pre-fill the city and state field in onboarding. We read this once and do not track your location over time. Your coordinates are stored only to render the map preview; they are not shared with franchise brands or third parties.
5. Data Sharing
We share your data only with the service providers needed to operate the App: Supabase (database and authentication), Anthropic (AI report generation), RevenueCat (subscription management), PostHog (product analytics), and Sentry (error monitoring). Each provider processes your data under their own privacy policies and our data processing agreements. We do not share your data with franchise brands without your explicit consent.
6. Analytics
We use PostHog to understand how users interact with the App — which screens are visited, where users drop off, and how features are used. Analytics data is pseudonymized and does not include the content of your franchise reports. You may opt out of analytics by contacting us at privacy@franchiseguide.app.
7. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your profile and report data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law. Anonymized, aggregated analytics data may be retained indefinitely.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate data; request deletion of your account and data; object to or restrict certain processing; and receive a copy of your data in a portable format. To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@franchiseguide.app. We will respond within 30 days.
9. Children's Privacy
The App is intended for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected such information, we will delete it promptly. Contact us at privacy@franchiseguide.app if you believe a minor has used the App.
10. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted transit (TLS), encrypted storage via Supabase's Postgres infrastructure, and row-level security policies that ensure users can only access their own data. No system is perfectly secure — if you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of material changes via in-app notice or email before they take effect. Your continued use of the App after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
